Where do US food business grants come from?

Grant money for US food and beverage businesses comes mostly from USDA programs, state departments of agriculture, and a small set of private relief funds. This page lists the recurring programs we search every month. Deadlines and eligibility change by cycle, so confirm both on the funder's own page before applying.

Grants by state

Each state page runs the same monthly federal search and shows the opportunities whose official title names that state, numbered and linked to the funder. Only the states this cycle's search actually named are listed here, so no link leads to an empty page.

This cycle's search returned no opportunity naming a single state. The national programs above are open to operators in every state we serve.

How the monthly search works

Every edition of the Funding Brief starts with a fresh search of US federal opportunities on grants.gov, filtered to food and beverage terms, plus a manual pass over the recurring programs above. Results are cached with the date they were retrieved, so the citations on a published edition never shift. Nothing on this page is sourced from a funding partner, and no program pays to be listed.

Common questions

Are there grants for opening a restaurant?

Rarely at the federal level. Federal food programs favor producers, processors, distributors, and market operators over dining rooms. Restaurant-specific money tends to come from private relief funds and city or state economic development offices, and those cycles open and close without much notice.

How do I know a grant listing is real?

Open the funder's own page and confirm the cycle is live before you spend time on an application. Every program on this page links directly to the funder, not to a summary. We do not publish a deadline we have not seen on the funder's site.

Does Foody Finance charge to find or apply for grants?

No. We do not charge operators anything, we do not write grant applications, and we are not compensated by any grant program. This page and the Funding Brief exist because grant money is the cheapest capital available and it should be checked before financing.

How often is this list checked?

Monthly, as part of the search behind each Funding Brief edition. The search results for each edition are cached with the date they were retrieved, so the citations on a published edition stay stable.

What if no grant fits my business?

Most operators end up financing, and that is a normal outcome rather than a failed search. Grants come first because they are never repaid, and financing comes last, only where it beats the alternatives.

Are state grants included?

Some federal programs are administered state by state, including the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, which means the applicant deadline is set by your state department of agriculture rather than by the federal agency.

Grants take time. Payroll does not.
